Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic has announced his resignation amid ongoing protests triggered by a fatal railway station accident. The decision comes after months of public demonstrations following the November collapse of a concrete canopy at a Novi Sad railway station that claimed fifteen lives.
Explaining his departure, Vucevic stated he was stepping down “in order to avoid further complicating things” and to prevent “further raising tensions in society.” The incident has sparked widespread demonstrations across Serbia, with protesters demanding accountability and highlighting concerns about corruption and construction oversight.
Student-led protests have been particularly impactful, featuring daily traffic disruptions and university blockades. The movement gained further momentum when businesses joined a general strike last week, bringing tens of thousands of demonstrators to Belgrade’s streets. The protests culminated in a 24-hour blockade of Belgrade’s main road junction by students on Monday.
In response to the growing unrest, President Aleksandar Vucic announced he would pardon students and university tutors facing protest-related charges. He also revealed plans for a substantial government reorganization, predicting the replacement of more than half the cabinet ministers.
Vucevic, who leads the governing Serbian Progressive Party, disclosed that Novi Sad Mayor Milan Djuric would also resign, fulfilling what he described as “the most political of the demands of some of the most extreme protesters.”
The departing Prime Minister’s tenure lasted less than a year. His previous roles included serving as defence minister and as mayor of Novi Sad from 2012 to 2020.
The tragedy has led to legal action against more than a dozen individuals, including former Transport Minister Goran Vesic, who resigned shortly after the incident.

The Metropolitan Police is evaluating its response after receiving allegations that 10 British nationals committed war crimes and crimes against humanity while serving in Israel's military operations in Gaza. A Counter Terrorism Policing spokesperson confirmed that "specialist officers" will assess the 240-page report to determine if a "UK-based investigation may be required." According to a summary of the dossier, the British nationals are accused of participating in forced civilian displacement and coordinated attacks on protected sites. The BBC has contacted the Israel Defense Forces for comment. Israel has previously rejected similar allegations as "completely false." The report was submitted to the Met's War Crimes Team by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights and the Public Interest Law Centre. It claims the alleged offenses occurred between October 2023 and May 2024. While the 10 British nationals remain unnamed publicly, they allegedly […]

Fake Accounts Face Ban As X Tightens Rules On Parody Profiles
X is implementing stricter regulations for parody accounts across its platform. Starting April 10, accounts impersonating others must clearly include words like "fake" or "parody" at the beginning of their account names. Additionally, these accounts must use different profile images than the official accounts they're mimicking. The policy change addresses user complaints about confusion caused by parody accounts, particularly those impersonating platform owner Elon Musk. "These changes are designed to help users better understand the unaffiliated nature of PCF accounts and reduce the risk of confusion or impersonation," X announced in a Saturday post. The platform encourages affected accounts to update their profiles before the enforcement date. These requirements will also apply to fan and commentary accounts. Users have responded positively to the announcement. "Hopefully this includes all the thousands of fake variations of Elon Musk accounts," wrote one user. […]

Deadly Floods Drown Kinshasa as Death Toll Reaches 33
Severe flooding has claimed at least 33 lives in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo's capital, according to official reports. President Félix Tshisekedi addressed victims on Monday, pledging support and announcing a government crisis meeting. "The republic will not abandon you," he assured affected residents. Citizens are attempting to escape rising waters by wading, swimming, or using makeshift canoes. The metropolis of 17 million sits along the massive Congo River, which recently reached its highest level in 60 years. Flooding is a recurring issue in Kinshasa, with the president previously warning that climate change is exacerbating the situation. Soil erosion also contributes to the city's vulnerability. Following overnight flooding from Friday into Saturday, many homes in western Kinshasa were destroyed. The mayor reports that approximately half of the city's 26 districts have been affected, with rescue teams deployed to assist […]

Iranian Currency Crashes To One Million Rial Per Dollar As Trump Pressures Tehran
Iran's rial has plunged to unprecedented lows against the US dollar amid escalating tensions over Iran's nuclear program. The exchange rate initially dropped below 1 million rials during the Persian New Year (Nowruz) celebrations when currency shops closed, forcing informal street trading that added pressure to the market. When traders resumed operations Saturday, the rate declined further to 1,043,000 rials per dollar. Some Tehran merchants even turned off electronic rate displays as uncertainty grew about how much lower the currency might fall. International sanctions have severely impacted Iran's economy, particularly since President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from Tehran's nuclear agreement with world powers in 2018. After returning to the White House in January for his second term, Trump revived his "maximum pressure" campaign, targeting Tehran with sanctions and pursuing companies trading Iranian oil, including those selling discounted crude to China. Meta and Pinterest Secretly Donate To Teen Suicide Victim Charity
Instagram owner Meta and Pinterest have made substantial donations to the charity established in memory of Molly Russell, a 14-year-old who took her own life in 2017 after viewing suicide and self-harm content on their platforms. A coroner determined that online material contributed to her death. The donations went to the Molly Rose Foundation, which advocates for internet safety. Both companies declined to comment when approached by the BBC. Molly's family stated they decided against legal action and would "never accept compensation" for her death. Through their solicitor, they explained they would "pursue the aims we share with Meta and Pinterest through the Molly Rose Foundation to help ensure young people have a positive experience online." Meanwhile, Meta faces multiple lawsuits in the US from families claiming their children were harmed by social media, with attorneys general from over 40 […]

Police Shoot Suspect After Four Children Stabbed in Brooklyn Home
Four children were seriously injured in a stabbing attack inside a Brooklyn home on Sunday morning, with police shooting the suspected attacker. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch reported that officers shot a man who had slashed four children with a meat cleaver at a residence in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Police received a call around 10:15 a.m. about an assault in progress at 1671 84th Street. The 11-year-old caller reported that she and her siblings had been stabbed by their uncle. Though the child didn't know her address, police technicians located it using available technology. Upon arrival, officers were let into the residence by an uninjured child and heard screams behind a door. After forcing entry, they encountered a man holding "a large meat cleaver covered in blood" with visible blood on the floors and walls. The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Longqian Chen, […]

Nigeria to Launch Calabar Section of Coastal Highway April 14, Connecting to Sokoto-Badagry Route
Nigeria's Federal Government will officially commence construction on the Calabar section of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway on April 14, addressing concerns that development has been limited to the Lagos area. During an ARISE News interview on Sunday, Minister of Works Dave Umahi announced a series of launch events: April 14 in Calabar (Cross River), April 15 in Akwa Ibom, and April 16 in Ebonyi State. "By the 14th of this month, we are going to be flagging off the construction in the Calabar axis," Umahi stated, rejecting claims that work was only happening in Lagos. "No, that is not a fact. We are working right now in Calabar and Akwa Ibom," he emphasized. The minister described another of President Tinubu's legacy projects that will connect Calabar with Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and ultimately Abuja—part of a Trans-Sahara route designed to […]
