Liverpool delivered a dominant 5-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium, extending their Premier League lead to eight points. Mohamed Salah delivered another exceptional performance, scoring one goal and providing two assists, showcasing the form that has defined his career.
Salah has now scored 20 goals across all competitions this season and has both scored and assisted in eight Premier League matches. His contributions are fueling Liverpool’s pursuit of their 20th league title in Arne Slot’s first season as manager. Liverpool currently holds 45 points from 18 games, with Nottingham Forest, who have played one more game, their closest challengers at 37 points. Chelsea, in fourth place, had the opportunity to reduce the gap to seven points with their game against Ipswich Town.
“The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that,” Salah told Sky Sports, expressing his dedication to the team’s success. He also addressed ongoing contract negotiations, stating, “No we are far away from that and I don’t want to put anything in the media,” indicating that discussions are not progressing quickly.
Despite the contract uncertainty, Salah’s performances continue to impress, drawing praise from manager Arne Slot, who has experienced only one defeat this calendar year, including his time with former club Feyenoord. When asked if Salah is the best player in the world currently, Slot responded, “If you look at his number you can’t argue with that. Mo is definitely up there at the moment.”
While Liverpool’s recent attacking form has been prolific, scoring nine goals in their previous two league games, they initially struggled to break down West Ham’s defense. However, Luis Dรญaz opened the scoring after 30 minutes, setting the stage for a commanding performance. Although West Ham had a chance with a shot hitting the post, Liverpool quickly took control. Salah set up Cody Gakpo for the second goal in the 40th minute and then scored himself just before halftime, effectively ending the contest.
Liverpool continued to create opportunities in the second half. A deflected shot from Trent Alexander-Arnold resulted in a 4-0 lead. Even with multiple substitutions, Salah remained on the pitch, creating an assist for Diogo Jota’s goal in the 84th minute, sealing the 5-0 victory. The resounding win further cemented Liverpool’s position as strong title contenders.
