Russian Elite Marines Face Bloodbath as Ukraine Trap Decimates Putin’s Kursk Push

Article arrow_drop_down

In a significant setback for Russian forces, Ukrainian defenders have reportedly encircled and destroyed elements of Russia’s prestigious 810th Naval Infantry Brigade along the northern edge of Ukraine’s Kursk salient. The incident marks a crucial development in Russia’s troubled eight-day offensive in the region.

Intelligence reports suggest Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered an aggressive push to reclaim Ukrainian-held territory in Kursk Oblast before the U.S. presidential transition in January. However, this urgency appears to be costing Russian forces dearly. Despite over a week of intense operations, Russian advances have been limited to mere hundreds of yards while suffering substantial losses exceeding 100 vehicles and estimated thousands of casualties.

The 810th Naval Infantry Brigade, operating alongside North Korean reinforcements, has emerged as a focal point of these losses. Russian military bloggers report the brigade is facing severe attrition due to “unprepared assaults” against well-fortified Ukrainian positions held by the 95th Air Assault Brigade.
Particularly devastating were the initial attacks on November 7-8 near Pogrebki village. Reports indicate brigade officers provided false intelligence about cleared minefields, leading to catastrophic losses when modern BTR-82 vehicles encountered extensive mining and concentrated Ukrainian fire. Ukrainian forces claim to have destroyed 36 Russian vehicles and eliminated 100 Russian marines in just the first two days of fighting.

The 95th Air Assault Brigade’s successful defense has continued, with recent engagements involving Ukrainian M-2 Bradley fighting vehicles successfully engaging Russian forces in Orlovka. Ukrainian forces also report capturing Russian marines during counterattacks in the area.
As the battle for Kursk continues, military analysts note that while Russia is making some territorial gains, the cost in personnel and equipment appears unsustainable. Ukrainian resistance remains resolute, with military observers emphasizing the defenders’ determination to maintain their positions regardless of diplomatic developments.

The situation underscores growing concerns about Russian military command effectiveness, particularly in light of continuing operations based on apparently flawed intelligence and tactical decisions.

However, the initial restart was not without problems. Ger Hyland, President of the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA), reported a three-hour delay for the second ferry from Dublin to Holyhead due to an electrical fault at the port. Hyland expressed concern about the port's readiness, citing the large backlog of freight on the Welsh side. He emphasized the potential for "huge disaster" for the haulage sector, passengers, and Ireland's imports […]

Conor McGregor Named in Civil Lawsuit Alleging Sexual Assault at NBA Finals

Conor McGregor, the mixed martial arts fighter and former UFC champion, is facing a civil lawsuit alleging sexual assault at the Kaseya Center (formerly FTX Arena and American Airlines Arena) in Miami during the NBA Finals on June 9, 2023. The plaintiff alleges that McGregor assaulted her in a bathroom at the venue and is seeking unspecified damages from both McGregor and the Miami Heat Limited Partnership, the arena's ownership group.   McGregor has denied the allegations through a spokesperson, dismissing them as a "shakedown." While the Miami Police Department initiated an investigation following a report filed on June 11, 2023, the Florida State Attorney’s Office declined to file criminal charges in October 2023. This declination does not preclude the pursuit of a civil suit, which has a different standard of proof than criminal proceedings.   The lawsuit also details […]

Russia Drafts 160,000 Men in Largest Military Call-Up Since 2011 Amid Growing Tensions

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the conscription of 160,000 men aged 18-30 in the country's most extensive military draft since 2011. The move is part of an ongoing expansion of Russia's armed forces, despite ongoing conflict in Ukraine and increased military tensions with NATO. The latest spring draft, running from April to July, surpasses the 2024 intake by 10,000 and aligns with Putin's goal of increasing Russia's overall military strength to nearly 2.39 million personnel. This includes raising the number of active servicemen to 1.5 million—an increase of 180,000 over three years. Vice Admiral Vladimir Tsimlyansky stated that the new conscripts would not be deployed to Ukraine. However, reports suggest that some have been killed in combat, particularly in Russia's border regions. In the early months of the full-scale war, conscripts were also sent to Ukraine despite official assurances […]

US Bombs Yemen As Israel Blocks Missile Fired At Tel Aviv

The Israeli military reports intercepting a missile launched from Yemen on Sunday, coinciding with intensified United States military operations targeting Houthi-controlled sites in the country. Air raid sirens sounded across multiple Israeli areas after the missile launch, which Israeli forces claim was intercepted before crossing into their territory. The Iran-supported Houthi rebels have consistently fired missiles toward Israel since the Gaza war began on October 7, 2023. The group has also targeted shipping vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, stating these actions show solidarity with Palestinians. The Houthis had temporarily suspended their campaign during the Gaza ceasefire, which ended when Israel resumed bombardment on March 18. On Thursday, Israel announced it had intercepted two missiles from Yemen. The Houthi forces, who have not commented on Sunday's alleged attack, previously claimed launching two missiles, including a hypersonic projectile, […]
