Four children were seriously injured in a stabbing attack inside a Brooklyn home on Sunday morning, with police shooting the suspected attacker.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch reported that officers shot a man who had slashed four children with a meat cleaver at a residence in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.

Police received a call around 10:15 a.m. about an assault in progress at 1671 84th Street. The 11-year-old caller reported that she and her siblings had been stabbed by their uncle. Though the child didn’t know her address, police technicians located it using available technology.

Upon arrival, officers were let into the residence by an uninjured child and heard screams behind a door. After forcing entry, they encountered a man holding “a large meat cleaver covered in blood” with visible blood on the floors and walls.

The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Longqian Chen, refused multiple commands to drop the weapon and advanced toward officers. “Two officers discharged their firearms, firing seven total rounds between them and striking the subject, ending the threat,” Tisch said. Chen was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The four victims—girls aged 8, 11, 13, and 16—all suffered “serious slash and stab wounds” and were taken to area hospitals. All are expected to survive. An uninjured boy who was also in the home during the attack went to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

Police believe Chen is related to the victims but are still investigating the exact relationship.

Commissioner Tisch praised the bravery of the 11-year-old who hid to call police and the boy who alerted a neighbor.

Two knives were recovered from the scene. The motive remains under investigation. According to family members, the man has a history of mental illness. There were no prior reports of domestic violence at the home.

Nigeria's Federal Government will officially commence construction on the Calabar section of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway on April 14, addressing concerns that development has been limited to the Lagos area. During an ARISE News interview on Sunday, Minister of Works Dave Umahi announced a series of launch events: April 14 in Calabar (Cross River), April 15 in Akwa Ibom, and April 16 in Ebonyi State. "By the 14th of this month, we are going to be flagging off the construction in the Calabar axis," Umahi stated, rejecting claims that work was only happening in Lagos. "No, that is not a fact. We are working right now in Calabar and Akwa Ibom," he emphasized. The minister described another of President Tinubu's legacy projects that will connect Calabar with Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and ultimately Abuja—part of a Trans-Sahara route designed to […]

Nigerian Electoral Commission Concludes Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Recall Process, Legal Path Forward Unclear

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially concluded the recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, with the agency's Director of Voter Education and Publicity confirming that legal provisions for restarting such efforts remain undefined. In an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday, INEC's Victoria Eta-Messi explained that while the commission followed constitutional guidelines throughout the process, current electoral law does not specify whether a failed recall can be reinitiated or what timeframe would be required before submitting a new petition. "The law is silent on the recall process being started afresh. And we're not sure, even if that were to happen, we're not sure of the window that is required before a resubmission can be done," Eta-Messi stated. She confirmed that the verification exercise failed to meet the required threshold of 50% plus one of registered voters, with only […]

Trump Administration Removes National Security Agency Director Amid Broader Staff Changes

According to CBS News, the Trump administration has dismissed General Timothy Haugh from his positions as head of the National Security Agency and US Cyber Command. General Haugh's removal appears to be part of a larger reorganization involving several top security officials at both the agency and the White House. The exact reasoning behind the dismissal remains unclear. Democratic leaders have expressed serious concerns about the decision. The development follows a Wednesday meeting between President Donald Trump and political activist Laura Loomer, who reportedly advocated for the removal of specific employees she believed lacked loyalty to the president's agenda. Loomer posted on X that General Haugh and his deputy, Wendy Noble, who US media reports were also dismissed, "have been disloyal to President Trump. That is why they have been fired." Before reports of these dismissals, President Trump told reporters […]

New York Mayor Eric Adams to Run as Independent After Corruption Case Dismissed

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced Thursday he will run for reelection as an independent, bypassing the Democratic primary just one day after a federal judge permanently dismissed corruption charges against him. "I have always put New York's people before politics and party — and I always will. I am running for mayor in the general election because our city needs independent leadership that understands working people," Adams stated in a Thursday morning post on X. The announcement follows Wednesday's dismissal of bribery and wire fraud charges against Adams. He had been indicted in September after prosecutors alleged he received over $100,000 worth of plane tickets and luxury hotel stays from Turkish nationals during his nearly decade-long service in local government. U.S. District Judge Dale Ho wrote in a 78-page order: "To the extent that the government may be […]

US Blocks All South Sudan Visas After Deportation Fight Erupts Between Nations

South Sudan has reversed its position in a diplomatic standoff with the United States, announcing it will allow entry to a deported man following the US decision to revoke visas for all South Sudanese citizens. The dispute began when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Saturday that the US would revoke all South Sudanese visas, citing the country's refusal to accept the return of its citizens being removed from the US. South Sudan initially claimed the case involved someone incorrectly identified as South Sudanese who was subsequently sent back to the US. However, the government now says it will permit the man to enter the country "in the spirit of the friendly relations," despite maintaining he is from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Officials stated he could arrive in Juba as early as Wednesday. "As a result of this […]

Fake Doctor With Stolen British Identity Arrested After Seven Patients Die During Surgeries

Indian police have arrested a man accused of impersonating a British cardiologist and performing surgeries that allegedly resulted in seven patient deaths. Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, who practiced under the name "Dr N John Camm," worked as a cardiologist at a missionary hospital in Madhya Pradesh state. Police have charged the 53-year-old with fraud, cheating, and forgery, alleging he fabricated his medical credentials despite working as a doctor for nearly two decades. Investigators are examining claims that Yadav appropriated the name of Professor John Camm, a renowned cardiologist at the UK's St George Hospital, to enhance his credibility. Yadav has denied all allegations and, hours before his arrest on Monday, issued legal notices demanding 50 million rupees ($582,985) from numerous individuals and publishers who claimed he impersonated "some other cardiologist." The Mission Hospital in Damoh city, where Yadav briefly worked, denied […]

Trump Claims Direct Talks With Iran While Tehran Denies Meeting

US President Donald Trump announced on April 7 that his administration is engaged in direct talks with Iran regarding its nuclear program, stating, "We're having direct talks with Iran. On Saturday, we have a very big meeting." Trump emphasized these were truly direct negotiations, not through intermediaries: "A lot of people say, oh, maybe you're going through surrogates or you're not dealing directly, you're dealing through other countries. No, we're dealing with them directly." He suggested a diplomatic solution "would be preferable to doing the obvious," seemingly referencing military action against Iran, which US ally Israel has undertaken twice in the past year. Iran, however, contradicted Trump's claim. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that indirect talks would occur in Oman, with himself and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff communicating through Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi as intermediary. Araghchi described […]

British Soldiers In Israel Face War Crime Accusations For Gaza Actions

The Metropolitan Police is evaluating its response after receiving allegations that 10 British nationals committed war crimes and crimes against humanity while serving in Israel's military operations in Gaza. A Counter Terrorism Policing spokesperson confirmed that "specialist officers" will assess the 240-page report to determine if a "UK-based investigation may be required." According to a summary of the dossier, the British nationals are accused of participating in forced civilian displacement and coordinated attacks on protected sites. The BBC has contacted the Israel Defense Forces for comment. Israel has previously rejected similar allegations as "completely false." The report was submitted to the Met's War Crimes Team by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights and the Public Interest Law Centre. It claims the alleged offenses occurred between October 2023 and May 2024. While the 10 British nationals remain unnamed publicly, they allegedly […]

Fake Accounts Face Ban As X Tightens Rules On Parody Profiles

X is implementing stricter regulations for parody accounts across its platform. Starting April 10, accounts impersonating others must clearly include words like "fake" or "parody" at the beginning of their account names. Additionally, these accounts must use different profile images than the official accounts they're mimicking. The policy change addresses user complaints about confusion caused by parody accounts, particularly those impersonating platform owner Elon Musk. "These changes are designed to help users better understand the unaffiliated nature of PCF accounts and reduce the risk of confusion or impersonation," X announced in a Saturday post. The platform encourages affected accounts to update their profiles before the enforcement date. These requirements will also apply to fan and commentary accounts. Users have responded positively to the announcement. "Hopefully this includes all the thousands of fake variations of Elon Musk accounts," wrote one user. […]

Deadly Floods Drown Kinshasa as Death Toll Reaches 33

Severe flooding has claimed at least 33 lives in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo's capital, according to official reports. President Félix Tshisekedi addressed victims on Monday, pledging support and announcing a government crisis meeting. "The republic will not abandon you," he assured affected residents. Citizens are attempting to escape rising waters by wading, swimming, or using makeshift canoes. The metropolis of 17 million sits along the massive Congo River, which recently reached its highest level in 60 years. Flooding is a recurring issue in Kinshasa, with the president previously warning that climate change is exacerbating the situation. Soil erosion also contributes to the city's vulnerability. Following overnight flooding from Friday into Saturday, many homes in western Kinshasa were destroyed. The mayor reports that approximately half of the city's 26 districts have been affected, with rescue teams deployed to assist […]
