Former Australia batter Stuart Law has been appointed as the new coach of Nepal’s men’s cricket team on a two-year contract.
The 56-year-old succeeds Monty Desai, whose tenure concluded after the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) opted not to extend his contract.
Law, who was part of Australia’s 1996 Cricket World Cup runner-up squad, most recently coached the United States national team. During his brief six-month stint with the Americans, he achieved remarkable success by guiding them to the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup last year in their first-ever World Cup appearance. His leadership produced one of cricket’s greatest upsets when the United States defeated Pakistan.
The former right-handed batter brings extensive international coaching experience, having previously led West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan national teams.
Nepal’s upcoming schedule includes crucial World Cup League 2 matches against Scotland and the Netherlands in June, which form part of the qualification pathway for the 2027 Cricket World Cup scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The team will also begin their qualification campaign for the 2026 T20 World Cup in October, looking to improve after a disappointing performance at the 2024 tournament where they finished at the bottom of their group with just one point.
Law’s playing career featured 54 one-day internationals and one Test match for Australia. Beyond his international career, he spent significant time playing county cricket in England with Essex and Lancashire. Before taking the United States coaching position, he served as head coach at English county side Middlesex.

Top Gun Star Val Kilmer Dies At 65 After Battling Throat Cancer
US actor Val Kilmer, known for iconic roles in Hollywood blockbusters like Top Gun and Batman Forever, has died of pneumonia at age 65. His daughter Mercedes Kilmer confirmed he passed away Tuesday night in Los Angeles. Kilmer had previously recovered from a throat cancer diagnosis in 2014 that required two tracheotomies. As the youngest actor ever accepted to the prestigious Juilliard School at the time, Kilmer began his film career with the spy spoof Top Secret! in 1984 and comedy Real Genius in 1985. His career peaked in the early 1990s with notable performances alongside Kurt Russell and Bill Paxton in Tombstone (1993), as Elvis's ghost in True Romance, and as a bank-robbing demolition expert in Michael Mann's Heat (1995) with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Though initially reluctant to join Top Gun, Kilmer eventually agreed to play […]

Federal Judge Forces Trump To Keep Funding Lawyers For Migrant Children
A federal judge has ordered the US government to temporarily resume funding legal aid for unaccompanied migrant children, stating it enhances fairness in the immigration system. US District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin of San Francisco issued the order Tuesday, preventing thousands of children traveling alone from losing their legal representation. The ruling follows the Trump administration's March 21 cancellation of a contract with the Acacia Center for Justice, a nonprofit that facilitates legal representation for these minors. Acacia criticized the termination, arguing that legal assistance for vulnerable children is "more crucial than ever" as deportations increase under the new administration. "The administration's decision to end these services undermines due process, disproportionately impacts vulnerable children, and puts children who have already experienced severe trauma at risk for further irreparable harm or exploitation," said Shaina Aber, Acacia's executive director, in a press release. Israel To Seize Large Parts Of Gaza As Military Operation Expands
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has announced plans to expand military operations in Gaza, seizing "large areas" of the territory to establish what he described as "security zones." In Wednesday's statement, Katz indicated the expanded operation aims to "destroy and clear the area of terrorists and terrorist infrastructure," requiring a substantial evacuation of Palestinian residents. This announcement follows reports from local hospitals that at least 15 Palestinians were killed in overnight strikes in Gaza. Extensive Israeli air strikes and shelling have been reported along the Egyptian border, suggesting an imminent major Israeli ground offensive. Earlier this week, Israel's military ordered an estimated 140,000 people in Rafah to evacuate their homes and issued new evacuation orders for parts of northern Gaza. Throughout the war, Israel has already significantly expanded a buffer zone around Gaza's perimeter and seized control of a corridor […]

China Sets Taiwan Strait On Fire With Live Drills Targeting President Lai
China's military conducted a live-fire exercise called "Strait Thunder" in the Taiwan Strait, simulating strikes on key ports and energy facilities, according to a Wednesday announcement. This represents an escalation from Tuesday's military drills around Taiwan, the democratic island that Beijing claims as its territory. Taiwan's presidential office "strongly condemns" these "military provocations," which have become increasingly common as cross-strait relations deteriorate. The exercises coincide with China's intensified rhetoric against Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te, whom they've labeled a "parasite" and "separatist." Earlier this month, Lai referred to China as a "foreign hostile force." China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) stated the drills served as a "serious warning and powerful containment of 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces." The military released cartoons depicting Lai as a "parasite" that was "poisoning Taiwan island" and "courting ultimate destruction," including an image of Lai being grilled over […]

Deadly Myanmar Quake Kills 2700 Including 50 Preschool Children As Rescue Hopes Fade
Myanmar authorities observed a minute of silence Tuesday for victims of a devastating earthquake that claimed over 2,700 lives, including 50 children at a preschool near Mandalay. The commemoration occurred as aid organizations reported desperate conditions in affected areas, with survivors struggling to secure basic necessities like food, water, and shelter. Friday's magnitude 7.7 earthquake—Myanmar's strongest in over a century—struck at lunchtime, destroying both ancient pagodas and modern structures. Military leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing announced the death toll had reached 2,719, potentially exceeding 3,000, with 4,521 injured and 441 missing. The disaster also killed at least 20 people in neighboring Thailand. In Mandalay, sirens sounded at precisely 12:51 pm, marking the moment the earthquake struck. Rescue workers at the heavily damaged Sky Villa apartment complex lined up with hands clasped behind their backs to pay respects while officials […]

US Military Bombs Houthi Targets as Trump Warns Yemen Rebels Will Be Destroyed
The United States military conducted a series of air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen overnight, targeting multiple locations across the country. The bombing campaign hit areas near the capital Sanaa and throughout the northern province of Saada early Tuesday, continuing military operations that began in mid-March. According to Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV, US forces launched 15 raids on Saada province, including the city of Saada and the districts of Majz and Sahar. Reports indicated Mount Nabi Shuaib in the Bani Matar district of Sanaa province was also targeted. No immediate casualty reports emerged from Tuesday's strikes, though the Houthis claim that at least 61 people have been killed in Yemen since US bombardments intensified on March 15. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) released two videos on social media showing fighter jets taking off and missiles being launched from an […]

Messi Scores Game Winner Two Minutes After Coming Off Bench For Inter Miami
Lionel Messi found the net just two minutes after entering as a second-half substitute, helping Inter Miami secure a 2-1 win against the Philadelphia Union at home. The 37-year-old Argentine star, who had been sidelined with an adductor strain that caused him to miss Argentina's recent World Cup qualifiers, made an immediate impact upon his return. Messi had sustained the injury during Miami's previous MLS match, a 2-1 victory at Atlanta on March 16. Miami had taken the lead in the 23rd minute when Finnish winger Robert Taylor converted a low pass from Benjamin Cremaschi following Jordi Alba's run down the left side. Coach Javier Mascherano introduced Messi in the 55th minute, and the impact was instantaneous. Former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez found Messi on the right side of the field, where he created space with a clever move before […]

Spanish Court Annuls Ex-Footballer Dani Alves’ Rape Conviction After Appeal
A Spanish court has overturned former Barcelona player Dani Alves's sexual assault conviction, ruling there was "insufficient evidence" to confirm his guilt. Alves was originally found guilty in February 2024 of raping a woman in a nightclub in December 2022, with an initial sentence of four years and six months in prison. The 41-year-old defender consistently denied any wrongdoing throughout the three-day trial. The Barcelona-based appeals court's four judges unanimously reversed the conviction, citing significant discrepancies between the plaintiff's testimony and video footage taken before Alves and the woman entered the toilet where the alleged assault occurred. This case represents a significant moment in Spain's recently overhauled sexual consent laws, known popularly as the "only yes means yes" legislation. Implemented in 2022, these laws define consent as an explicit expression of will, emphasizing that silence or passivity do not constitute […]

Real Madrid Coach Ancelotti Faces Trial For Alleged Tax Evasion
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti will stand trial next week on charges of allegedly failing to declare income to Spain's tax office. Prosecutors are seeking a four-year, nine-month jail term, accusing the 65-year-old Italian of costing Spain's treasury over $1.1m in undeclared earnings from image rights during 2014 and 2015. The two-day trial begins Wednesday, with Ancelotti required to be present for the hearings. Prosecutors allege he only declared his personal remuneration from Real Madrid, despite being a Spanish tax resident with a home in Madrid. They claim Ancelotti created a "complex" system of shell companies to conceal additional earnings from image rights and real estate. According to prosecutors, he earned $1.33m in 2014 and $3.19m in 2015 from image rights sales. A Spanish court previously ordered Ancelotti to stand trial in 2023 without setting a specific date. The coach […]

Messi Injury Blow Threatens Argentina World Cup Qualifying Run
Lionel Messi will not participate in Argentina's upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying matches due to a groin injury sustained during Inter Miami's weekend victory over Atlanta, his club announced. In a statement released Monday, Inter Miami revealed that medical scans confirmed Messi had suffered a "low-grade injury in the adductor muscle" during Sunday's 2-1 win. The club provided no specific timeline for his recovery. "His clinical progress and response to treatment will determine his availability for competition," Inter Miami stated. The 37-year-old star had recently returned to action for Inter Miami, scoring as a substitute in a CONCACAF Champions Cup match after missing three previous games. Argentina must now face Uruguay this Friday and Brazil on March 25 without their captain. The world champions currently lead the South American qualifying group by five points ahead of their match against […]

Usyk Forced to Face Surprise Challenger as Boxing Dream Fight Collapses
Oleksandr Usyk must begin negotiations to defend his WBO heavyweight championship against Joseph Parker, according to an official order from the boxing organization. This directive potentially derails British fighter Daniel Dubois's hopes for a rematch with the Ukrainian champion. The WBO announced Thursday that Usyk, who currently holds the WBC and WBA titles as well, has 30 days to reach an agreement with New Zealand's Parker for a mandatory defense or face a purse bid situation. Parker successfully defended his WBO interim title in Riyadh recently, stopping Martin Bakole in the second round after Dubois withdrew due to illness. Instead of rescheduling against Parker, IBF champion Dubois had been pursuing another bout with Usyk, who knocked him out in the ninth round in August 2023. The 27-year-old Dubois was reportedly in discussions for a fight with Usyk that would unify […]

England Star Wood Sidelined Just Before Major Ashes Showdown
Mark Wood is expected to miss England's complete home Test schedule this summer after surgery on his left knee. The 35-year-old fast bowler will be unavailable until late July, approximately when the five-Test India series concludes. This means Wood's next potential Test appearance would be during the Ashes tour in Australia starting in November. The Durham paceman's absence represents a significant setback for England during a year featuring two premier Test series. Coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes, who favor express pace in their bowling attack, have now lost their quickest bowler for the summer home fixtures, raising questions about Wood's availability for the Australian tour. With Wood considered England's premier Test seamer, his injury further questions the decision to play him in the Champions Trophy. Fellow pacers face their challenges: Jofra Archer hasn't played Test cricket since 2021 […]
