Brazil's Supreme Court has imposed a fine of 8.1 million reais ($1.42 million) on social media platform X for failing to follow court orders, according to a Thursday ruling. Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes issued the decision. The fine originated from a 2023 case where the court ordered X to remove an account accused of sharing misinformation and provide the account holder's registration information. The platform's noncompliance led to daily fines of 100,000 reais and potential criminal consequences for X's local legal representative.
