U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in Massachusetts have arrested two individuals, including an alleged child sexual predator and an MS-13 gang member, raising concerns about the release of potentially dangerous individuals into communities. ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston division apprehended Belardis Tapia Gonzalez, a Dominican national accused of second-degree child molestation in Rhode Island. Gonzalez had been released on bail despite the serious charges against him. "ERO Boston is tasked with keeping our communities safe from potentially dangerous noncitizens," stated ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia Hyde. "Our officers apprehended Tapia, who has been accused of terrible crimes, after we discovered that a court in Warwick, Rhode Island, released him on bail." A civil jury in Ireland has found mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor liable for sexually assaulting a woman in 2018 and ordered him to pay nearly €250,000 (approximately $260,000) in damages. The verdict came after a two-week trial in which the plaintiff, Nikita Hand, accused McGregor of "brutally raping and battering" her in a Dublin hotel room. Hand testified that she met McGregor at a party and that he took her to a bedroom where he sexually assaulted her, including putting her in a choke hold multiple times. She described fearing for her life and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the alleged assault.
