Fox Corporation announced plans to launch its first comprehensive subscription streaming service by the end of 2024, expanding beyond its existing Fox Nation and Tubi platforms.
CEO Lachlan Murdoch revealed the initiative during the company’s quarterly earnings call, though specific details about the service remain limited. The company is currently developing the app, and more information is expected in the coming months. The streaming platform will incorporate both Fox’s sports and news content offerings.
The announcement maintains that this new service isn’t intended to disrupt Fox’s traditional cable television presence. This development follows Fox’s previous streaming ventures, including Fox Nation, which offers exclusive content and Fox News on-demand programming, and Tubi, their free ad-supported platform. Notably, Fox will stream this year’s Super Bowl on Tubi for the first time.
The timing of this announcement comes after Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Disney recently abandoned their joint venture plans for a sports streaming app called Venu. The project faced legal complications that delayed its planned fall 2024 launch, ultimately leading to its cancellation. Among these three media companies, Fox had been the only one without a comprehensive streaming option for its sports content outside traditional cable packages. For comparison, Warner Bros. Discovery offers sports through Max, while Disney’s ESPN operates ESPN+ and is developing a new streaming service called ESPN “Flagship,” targeted for an August launch.
Murdoch characterized the Venu project’s termination as the company’s “only disappointment in sports.”
